Mesothelioma is a rare but dangerous cancers caused by exposure to asbestos particles suspended in the air. Asbestos is a naturally occurring mineral silicates. It is made of strong and durable fibers that are resistant to heat and fire. Thin and long flexible structure for asbestos fibers allows you to build them, even in fabric. These intrinsic qualities of asbestos prompted the manufacturers, automotive, maritime, science, construction and consumer products to use it widely during 1890-1970.

Different types of mesothelioma and their symptoms

Mesothelioma affects the lining of the lungs, abdominal organs or heart. Asbestos mesothelioma affecting lining of the lungs or pleural membrane is called pleural mesothelioma. Peritoneal Mesothelioma affects the lining of the abdominal organs or peritoneum. When this disease is showing its effect in the lining of the heart and pericardium, it is known as pericardial mesothelioma. Symptoms of peritoneal mesothelioma are pain and swelling in the abdomen, weakness, weight loss, loss of appetite and nausea. In most cases, fluid accumulates in the peritoneal space. In most cases, fluid accumulates in the pleural space.

Asbestos Mesothelioma kills silently

The most unfortunate thing about asbestos mesothelioma is its long latency period. Anyone who had been exposed to asbestos, even 20 to 50 years ago, may have asbestos mesothelioma dormant in his body, without symptoms mentioned above. By the time the symptoms are visible, it is already too late. The average survival time for all types of patients with mesothelioma is not more than 24 months.

Diagnosis of asbestos mesothelioma involves X-rays, CT-scan, peritoneoscopy and bronchoscopy. Having found no abnormality doctor may suggest biopsy. In biopsy, we send a sample of tissue for pathological examination. After examining the tissue sample to a pathologist could confirm expert on the development of the disease.

Chemotherapy, radiation and surgery are some of the available treatment options for patients suffering from mesothelioma asbestos. People suffering from mesothelioma form of asbestos can filer to collect damages for people or industries responsible for their exposure to asbestos.
